The Victorian Society for Computers and the Law (VSCL) is co-hosting with the University of Melbourne Science and Technology Law Association (SATLA) a panel discussion on the the use and regulation of data analytics at Melbourne Law School. This event will commence at 6pm and be followed by drinks and nibbles at 7pm. 

Panelists for this event are Jon Lawrence (Executive Officer at Electronic Frontiers Australia), Tim Van Gelder (Co-lead on the SWARM Project and founder of Austhink), James Bailey (Data Analytics Prof) and Priyanka Nair (Tech and Privacy Lawyer).  

Topics up for discussion include: (a) techniques used in data analytics; (b) Cambridge Analytica and its use of psychometrics; (c) data being used to influence decision making; and (d) the state of laws governing the use of data - are they adequate?
