This panel event, co-hosted by the Victorian Society for Computers and the Law (VSCL) and the University of Melbourne Science and Technology Law Association (SATLA), will explore key online players and the markets in which they operate before delving into the competition law issues raised in the online space. This event will commence at 6pm with drinks and nibbles followed by the panel between 6:30pm and 7:30pm.

Panellists for this event are:

  • Caron Beaton-Wells (Competition Lore Podcast Presenter and Professor at Melbourne Law School);
  • Rosannah Healy (Competition and Consumer Law Partner at Allens);
  • Robert Walker (Competition and Consumer Law Partner at Allens; and
  • Priyanka Nair (President of the VSCL and In-house Tech Lawyer at Vicinity).

Topics up for discussion include: (a) data, algorithms and adtech as competition gamechangers; (b) consumer awareness and understanding of how digital platform intermediaries operate; and (c) the role and issues to be tackled by competition law and regulators when it comes to big tech.
