Join us for a multi-disciplinary panel focusing on the encryption law debate and how Australian businesses and, in particular, tech start-ups are likely to be impacted by such law. Topics to be discussed include the role of encryption in information security, privacy compliance and business as well as the increasing regulatory barriers to be overcome by emerging Australian technology start-ups seeking their place on the world stage.
This panel will be moderated by Robert Ceglia (Lawyer @ Corrs) and will include panellists: Michael Swinson (KWM Partner, TMET - Mergers & Acquisitions); Georg Thomas (Corrs National Security & Risk Manager); and Michael Pattison (ContractProbe Founder). Further speaker details are provided below.

Georg Thomas, National Security & Risk Manager, Corrs Chambers Westgarth
As a Certified Ethical Hacker Georg offers our panel a technical and risk management insight on encryption issues. Georg is also an expert in information security, technology, IT governance, compliance and risk, both in Australia and internationally. Georg previously worked at Grant Thornton and was based in New York, where he provided organisations insight on their approach to Cyber Security and risk, as well as leading a team of ethical hackers testing the security controls of organisations including Fortune 500 companies.
Michael Pattison, Founder of ContractProbe, Director at the Australian Legal Technology Association
Michael offers our panel insight from a start-up perspective, with strong foundations in both the technology and legal disciplines. Michael is the founder of ContractProbe, a machine learning tool that reviews draft legal agreements in under 60 seconds. He holds dual law and computer science degrees, and completed a masters thesis on the application of artificial intelligence to law. Michael is also an experienced commercial lawyer having previously been a partner at Allens in their TMT practice as well as having previously practised in Linklaters’ information technology law practice in London.
