Disruption of the legal industry often generates heated discussion. Change is upon us, uptake is increasing, and yet the view that ‘tech will take our jobs’ is rife throughout the legal sector. For this panel, Chelsea Davine (Lawyer @ Anzarut & Partners) chats with Ineffable’s Sacha Mcmonagle-Ihasz, Leah Paff of the Lemonade Traders and Tessa Ramanlal of HSF and ANIKA Legal on disruption in the legal sector, and how the legal landscape is changing.

Tessa Ramanlal - Solicitor at HSF & Co-founder and Director of ANIKA Legal
ANIKA is a charity developing an online platform for the provision of free legal advice to assist members of the community. The concept for ANIKA was born out of the 2018 Global Legal Hackathon, where Tessa and a bunch of friends pitched the idea of university students drafting legal advice under the supervision of qualified lawyers for clients who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access legal assistance. Their pitch got them all the way through to the final round of the GLH in New York where they finished runners-up. ANIKA has just co-won ‘Startup of the Year’ at the Australian Financial Review Client Choice Awards, and Tessa was also recently awarded the International Legal Tech Association’s ‘Rising Star’ scholarship.
Leah Paff - Co-founder at The Lemonade Traders
Leah is the co-founder of The Lemonade Traders, an online disruptive legal service that facilitates the challenging legal conversations start ups need to have early on and helps them produce legally binding agreements that are informed, considered and agreed by all. The Lemonade Traders was selected as part of the “launch ready” team for a LaunchVic grant to run workshops with start up founders on getting their business legals sorted from the get go. Leah’s background includes stints as a creative director, innovation and industry engagement manager, and in private consulting. In addition to being the co-founder of a disruptive legal services platform, she brings a highly varied industry perspective to our panel.

Sacha offers our panel a user experience and industry perspective, with experience both in designing and using disruptive legal services. Sacha is Co-founder and Head of Creative at Ineffable, a creative lab that develops simple solutions to complex challenges by focusing on automation, data analysis, algorithmic and product design, and Co-founder of Fabl, a business community of start ups aspiring towards societal impact
