When: 6pm - 7:30pm, Friday 25 October 2019

Where: Hayden Raysmith Room, Level 4, Ross House, 247-251 Flinders Lanes Melbourne VIC 3000

This meetup will involve VSCL members and guests coming together to discuss the challenges in regulating AI towards promoting AI safety and protecting against risk of harm. Seats are limited and registration is a must.

Format for this event will be as follows:

1. 15 minute briefing: discussion faciltated by Han-Wei Liu on the areas of likely existential risk in AI;

2. team design sprint: breakup into teams of 5 to design from scratch an AI governance model of no more than 10 principles/rules. Note to self, forget about your knowledge of existing regulatory frameworks and assume that existing regulation of technology has been ineffective; and

3. present your pitch: to a panel of 3 judges (including Han-Wei) on your proposed governance model for addressing AI existential risk. Learn to brainstorm, keep it simple stupid and risk failure like a legit tech nerd NOT lawyer.

Our facilitator, Han-Wei Liu is a lecturer at Monash University who has previously practiced as a lawyer at Baker & Mackenzie, Taipei Office. He is as obsessed as we are on research into regulatory frameworks for artificial intelligence and we're ever so keen to brainstorm and share ideas with him!
