The activities of certain States on the internet are now well-publicised, with many “experts” now publishing not just opinions, but also papers outlining investigations they have been running independently. The purpose of this presentation is to provide some background to the current situation, clarify some of the language that is being (over) used and then spend some time looking at what reactions there have been from both Government and Industry, and the ramifications of each. The presentation will then focus on the legal sector, providing sanitised case studies and experiences to date when dealing with these issues, and finish up by looking forward at how these threats can be managed into the future.

Scott Ceely - General Manager, Context Information Security
Scott Joined Context Information Security when the Australian office opened in February 2011. Prior to this Scott worked for 13 years in the Australia Federal Government in a variety of roles that included: technical and managerial positions in the Australian Intelligence Community, including leading the development of new technical capabilities and chairing an international technical forum promoting technology exchange, co-ordinating research and development aimed at enhancing Australia’s National Security in what has become the National Security Science and Technology Branch of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, and establishing the Technical Liaison Officer position at the Embassy of Australia in Washington DC, dealing with US Government agencies to facilitate the sharing of technical capabilities.
